Employment Training

Candidates who successfully complete the selection process may be considered for employment. All candidates hired must complete law enforcement training at either the Erie County Central Police Services Training Academy or the Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy. Presently New York State requires a minimum of 510 hours of training in the basic course. The Police Academy is approximately 20 weeks.

In addition, each hired recruit will be required to successfully complete a ten week Field Training Course with the Transit Police Department and remain on a probationary period of no less than 18 months. At any time during the probationary period, the Transit Police Department reserves the right to terminate your employment based upon your performance.

Candidates who have completed the Pre-Employment Academy and are hired will be required to complete their remaining two weeks of training before beginning field training with the Transit Police Department.
