Transit Oriented Development
Advancing community and economic development, equity, safety, connectivity, accessibility, transit ridership, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions drives the Authority work in transit-oriented development. Mixed-use development near transit stations in the current and proposed NFTA-Metro Rail corridor can achieve multiple goals with individual projects. Transit station development involves detailed research, funding coordination, outreach, education, and an incorporation of community vision and values. The NFTA is uniquely positioned to assess and balance myriad concerns and carry out workable solutions.
In May 2022, the City of Buffalo, in partnership with the NFTA, issued a Request for Qualifications for development at NFTA-Metro Rail’s Lasalle Station. The NFTA and the City of Buffalo own adjoining parcels of land at the site. The NFTA continues to work with the City of Buffalo on development at and adjacent to the LaSalle Station.
In June 2022, OSC, Inc. approached the NFTA with a proposal for NFTA-Metro Rail’s Summer-Best Station. The NFTA is working with OSC on the best way to match the station and adjacent development and to boost the neighborhood as a whole.
Additional initiatives are being considered for every Metro Rail station in system.
