2025 Sustainability Report
Sustainability is a core value of NFTA’s operations. This sustainability plan establishes authority-wide goals, measurable objectives, and desired outcomes to guide ongoing and future initiatives. As a board-approved, working document, it will be updated annually to reflect progress and define next steps.
The report includes an inventory of direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions from transit vehicles, airport operations, and NFTA facilities – stations, administrative buildings, maintenance sites, shops, and yards. The 2024 inventory provides a baseline for tracking emissions reductions. As data quality improves, future reports may include additional emissions sources such as solid waste, water usage, and employee commuting. Total direct and indirect emissions for FY2024 were 35,270 metric tons of CO₂-equivalent.
NFTA’s goals, strategies, and actions focus on the following areas: fleet management, utility consumption, waste and water, safety and resilience, property development, energy supply and renewables, and sustainability leadership and programming. This plan is designed to ensure that NFTA’s services remain resilient for future generations while supporting longterm opportunities for the Buffalo-Niagara region.
